His research involves syntheses and characterizations of novel microporous inorganic membranes, solid ionic thin films, and nanostructured catalysts and investigations to understand their structure-performance relationships pertinent to applications in clean energy technologies. Dong is the Ohio Eminent Scholar and Rieveschl Chair in Membrane Science and Technology in CEAS at University of Cincinnati.
